The Medical Centre of the University of Debrecen is one of the largest diagnostic-and-treatment institutions in Europe. At present, this multidisciplinary clinic holds leading positions among European medical institutions of its class, and is included in the Europe’s 500 ranking of top companies for high growth and development performance.

Clinical Departments of the University of Debrecen Medical Centre

Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care: This unit (with 49 experienced anaesthesiologists) provides anaesthesia support for all surgical interventions and pain procedures in the clinic. The main objective is to deliver safe anaesthesia and intensive therapy to all patients, performed according to European clinical protocols and using modern medical equipment. 

 

Department of Internal Medicine: Covers the following clinical subdivisions:

  • Metabolic disorders
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Angiology
  • Geriatrics
  • Haematology
  • Clinical immunology
  • Nephrology
  • Rare (orphan) diseases
  • Emergency department 

 

Dermatology Department: Provides modern care in diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic skin and adnexal diseases, including various forms of atopic dermatitis and food allergy in children, as well as skin cancer. The department also hosts an aesthetic dermatology and surgery centre. 

 

ENT and Neck Surgery Department

 

Department of Paediatrics: Including general paediatrics, paediatric haematology and neonatology. 

 

Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery: Offers care for patients of all ages with acute and chronic heart and major vascular diseases. Modern treatments include vessel stenting, aorto-coronary bypass surgery, radio-frequency catheter ablation, valve surgery, etc. 

 

Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy: The clinic employs all modern methods for treating malignant tumours of various locations. Its specialists participate directly in the development, study and analysis of innovative cancer treatments. Many clinical trials of new drugs or treatment methods are conducted on the basis of this oncology department. Precision surgical techniques and radiotherapy enable optimal outcomes in cancer treatment. Although European clinical protocols are followed, treatments are fully personalized and adapted to individual patient needs. 

 

Institute of Surgery: Specialists in the unit perform high-level surgical treatments for patients of all ages. Priority areas include:

  • Gastrointestinal surgery
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Organ and tissue transplantation
  • Oncology
  • Vascular surgery 

 

Eye Clinic: Performs conservative and surgical methods of treatment for ocular disorders. 

 

Other departments: Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Surgical and Therapeutic Dentistry. 

 

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology: On the basis of this department, all modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of female reproductive system disorders are performed, including fertility treatment (IVF), pregnancy management and childbirth. 

 

Rehabilitation and Recovery Department: The department has 60 beds. Specialists conduct all available modern methods of restorative treatment for patients of all ages, including those who have undergone nervous-system (stroke, trauma, surgery) or cardiovascular or musculoskeletal system illnesses. The department also rehabilitates patients with excess body weight and organises selection of prostheses and other orthopaedic constructions. 

 

Diagnostic Departments of the Centre
A high level of professional training and modern equipment allow rapid and precise diagnostics. The diagnostic service includes:

  • Laboratory Diagnostics Department: All possible clinical laboratory tests, as well as microbiological analyses, hormonal studies, tumour markers, etc. 
  • Department of Radiology and Imaging Diagnostics: Offers modern imaging diagnostics methods including X-rays, ultrasound, Doppler, CT and MRI.
  • Centre for Diagnosis of Rare (Orphan) Diseases.
